I tried that and it did indeed have an interesting effect. When turned on, little purple rectangle lines appear over "most" door ways and windows of structures. But not all of tehm have this. So portal passing may have something to do with collision mesh in the area near doors and such?

Perhaps these are assignments for the AI which doors to use? :?: Really only a suggestion, I don't know jack about AI.

But now I'm also intrigued to get to know what this code does ;)

Here's my mutiple theory's on it's possible purpose:

1. I remember an old bug a long time ago in a previous version of the game where the game would CTD if a soldier died in a door way. One possible purpose for this system is to remove that bug.

2. It may also be network related in purpose. It might serve the purpose of simplifiing network info sent to all clients when someone shoots a projectile through these "portals".

3. It may have the purpose of allowing land vehicles to enter buildings without portals and the portals tell the the game that only soldiers are allowed through the openings that have portals.

Also I noticed that not all door ways and windows have a portal box. For example, the watch towers don't have them nor do the door ways in the back of the hangers. I do know that I can drive my minitank into and out of those doors in the back of the hanger with no problem. I could also drive the minitank into the smaller shed looking building next to the hanger on El Alamein and it also has no portals on it's openings either. However aircraft are exempt and are never allowed in ANY structure that has a COL01 mesh that doesn't allow them to fit as I noticed my mini copter (about the size of a small RC copter and is small enough for the soldiers to hold!) can't enter any structure except mayby the openings in the factory buildings. So anything with VCAir as its vehicle type are never allowed into any buildings with COL01 mesh that don't allow it.

Also, the ever mysterious aiMeshes may also play a role in defining the portals. Though it wouldn't explain why the windows on some buildings have them as the aiMesh for those buildings don't allow AI to consider the windows as openings either.

However on Berlin the buildings doorways on allied side I have trouble getting the tank in and out of (despite being small enough to fit through) and I believe those have portals. So option 3 seems more likely for this. However it seems the "isportalpassing" code is either useless or does not work on normal PCOs and adding this code to the minitank didn't seem to effect it's ability to go through these portals nor does disabling the portal code on soldiers have any effect on soldiers ability to enter doorways.

The windows I believe have portals possibly because the game can't really tell the difference in some cases so it labels those as portals as well. Last I checked there is no code that is added to statics or meshes that tells the game where the doorways/portals are. So the portals are generated at game time only and no code is known that tells the game what is and what isn't a portal. More then likely the game takes into account obstacles that may partially block the door way. For example sideways stairs of the doorways on the back of the hangers. Also large openings in the structure also may disqualify it from the game adding portals to it. The shack next to the hanger in El Alamein has a rather large opening in the front and so it doesn't have portals on it or it's doorway.
