Precache is not that important nowadays, as it was a measure to reduce lags on poor computers. Everytime a completely new object would enter their field of vision it would have to be loaded in that exact moment, causing a minifreeze/lag depending on the power of the computer this could be REALLY annoying.

To circumvent this, all the "problematic" objects (especially PCOs) are precached, loaded during the initial map load. This increases map load time, but prevents the aforementioned microfreezes.

Useless nowadays, every halfway modern (3-4 years old...) computer has enough power to load objects so quickly directly you won't notice any lags. Would just be an extra bunch of work...

Well my computer is "halfway modern" (3 yrs old) and that is true, but not in mods. I lag like hell most of the time on DC, FH, and BG42 so badly, that I cannot play them. So maybe they need precaches. Or maybe put a damn server less than 10,000 miles away from me. It takes me between 5 and 20 minutes to load a map for one of those mods anyway so what's the point.

Could you post your PC specs, please? It took me 5-10 min to load a map with the computer I had when BF42 came out, but I had a REALLY sucky computer back then.

I don't know all the specs, just that they're not good. I can load a vanilla 42 map in less than 2 minutes so it's not a big deal, I just don't play mods. My PB always kicks me for random reasons anyway so I don't play 1.61. And yes I updated my PB. I can play on Freddy's server (BFO Coral Sea PT Boats) but all others are no go. So no DC, BG42, or anything. So I keep to my own 1.6 server.

@Iced: That's why I'm confused...

Either someone tricked you and sold you a very crappy computer three years ago or you have some badass background processes killing your CPU/RAM perfomance....virus? trojan? Or an incredibly old and never formatted and freshly set up certain OS can cause this (yes, I'm talking to you, MS Windows -_- )
