Theres a rumor going around on xfire that EA will be shutting off the 1942 multiplayer, permanently. And re-releasing a FH like version of it, with better graphics, more vehicles/weapons/maps, etc....A BF2 style 1942, with ranks, commanders, and other advanced things. It might be cool, but shutting down regular 1942 is TOTALLY NOT COOL and would totally suck, and I hope it isn't true.....but does anyone know if it is or not?

How do they intent to "shut down" 1942??? Even if they were to sabotage gamespy, you could still join any server via IP address, or your xfire list.

However, the last part of the rumor I wish was true: A new 1942 would be sweet.

I think that rumor was mainly because of the EA server problems that caused no servers in any of the BF games to show up. Now that that's fixed I think we're safe for a while.

is ther like a big mama server that runs bf1942 multiplayer?

I believe the big mama server is the EA Master Server or a server at GameSpy which brings up all of the servers in the game server list. Servers are independent of it though; you can still run and connect to a server with its IP address even if the server list isn't working.

Well, anyway.....yes a new 1942 would be sweet. But from what I heard, EA can shut off the multiplayer network..... Maybe they can't, idk. Thats why I asked. I'm also now hearing that they may temporarily shut it down and release a new patch, with those features. Then start it again, hoping more ppl will convert if thats the case. Although, if you look hard enough, I've seen servers still in v1.45.....
