i would be glad to explain how to do this but i repeat setting the skin is a CLIENT SIDE MOD even if the client has the different skin already changing the skin on the server will do NOTHING to the client. it WILL NOT WORK AT ALL AS A SERVER SIDE MOD

understood Tacoman, this is a no go as far as the new skins for the bradley, t72, abrams, etc.

whats the method for changing them if only client side? (i.e. distributable to clan members)

I'll be chasing up the DCF team members to see if its possible for them to make the new skins whole new vehicles instead

so instead of spawning an abrams which picks its skin from the map files, you would spawn a abrams of the camo you wanted.

in the maps init.con ADD
textureManager.alternativePath /bf1942/levels/El_Alamein/textures
of course you will need to change the map name so that it doesn't say El_Alamein and says the name of the map you want to change.
then create a folder in the rfa named textures and put any textures you want the map to use(with the proper file name of the texture of course) in there. thats all there is too it, and you can use the _001.rfa method for this so that its a patch that way you can remove it if needed.

thanks for your help on this one :D

hopefully the Devs might realise the scope of SSM to keep DC (DCF) going for a long while yet. Coding things so that more can be done Server Side makes for much easier updates from them, and from the community.

that wouldn't be something the devs for dc final could do, it would have to be the devs for battlefield as it would be a change to the battlefield engine, DC Final is just a mod for bf1942 they cant actually change anything about the battlefield engine.

you misunderstand me, they could compile the differently skinned models as new models. They could annotate their objectspawns.con better, they could leave us some spare spawners to play with.

Theres actually a lot they can do, that they often seem not to do. For all the fact that I love DC and DC final, it annoys me that DCX can do so much more with a much smaller team. Theres always things that DC has done well, its probably has the best balance of fun:realism. However theres things they just never got right, like loading screens.

Also they have never got round to building cockpits for some vehicles, or alternative skins that have long been needed.
