I just bought a new system with Vista, not that I like Vista or anything, but in this case I'm forced to use it and
I'm experiencing problems with DCX now suddenly. I can get it started up but when I launch a game it crashes to desktop
with a message like "Battlefield has stopped functioning". I then uninstall the game and all mods, and install everything
again by the book, starting with BF42, then i patch it with v1.61b. Then I install DC 0.7 and DC_Final after that. those two mods
work perfectly fine, but then I install DCX 0.9 at the end wich will just not work. I'm pretty sure I installed everything in the right
order, but why DCX won't work when the two others do is beyond me >_> I used XP before that and had no problems at all.

Does anyone know if DCX is not compatible with Vista or have had similar problems?

Okay heres what may be the problem i doubt its vista cuz the mods run on the same platform as the original game its just a new buch of flashy skins and sounds so try this for me uninstall dcx then before you reinstall it go to the start menu and follow these steps

hit My computer

select you main hard drive mine is (C:)

select program files

then find the folder named EA games and enter it

select battlefield 1942

select the folder named mods

then you will see a folder named DC_Extended

delete the folder then you can reinstall DCX and hopefull it will work

NOTE:you must do thses steps AFTER you uninstall dcx

this link will hopefully give you some direction. first and foremost, vista can be very frustrating, it takes up more ram, etc., if you feel you need to uninstall, use the uninstall from the game\mod. if you dont, it can leave a lot of things that can cause probs, ie. your registry. we run battlefield 1942 up to DCFX 1C, ive been thru so many headaches, lol! i hope this helps? peace and love

I've tried so many different combinations of uninstalling this and that, DC_final and DCX will not load maps.
Then I removed everything, and installed a different BF (WW2 Anthology pack with Road to rome and secret weapons).
After that I installed DC 0.7 (wich worked fine), then the 1.6 patch, then DC_Final WICH WORKED this time O_O
Then I installed DCX, didn't work, removed DCX again, and updated with 1.61b and installed DCX again, still didn't work.
And now with 1.61b installed DC_final has stopped functioning again lmfao..
Then I found out something, I started a dedicated DCX LAN server wich did not load the map either BUT, it atleast stated that this:
BF1942_w32ded.exe -was causing the problem now the question remain what do I do with that file? what does it do?

Thanks for the feedback so far, this is getting really really frustrating tho, I'm sitting here with a brand new monster pc wich cannot be downgraded to XP
due to hardware drivers. Hope there is a solution to this

I've found a solution to the problem, I ran BF1942 as administrator in Windows 98 compatible mode and then it worked
Now I can get back to work, making the Tomcat shoot playerguided missiles. One day it will work, it has to!
case closed.
