Alright, so I was wondering what the developers of this game used to create the Battlefield 1942 engine (Refractor 2 if I'm not mistaken). Editing the engine would have a lot of advantages over normal modding, IMO I think you could add way more features to the game than conventionnal modding. Any ideas? |

To my knowledge, EA never released source code which makes editing the .exe impossible, yes? |

Yes, unfortunately EA never did so, They gave us a functioning version of Refractor 2 Command Lines but never any source code, despite BF1942's ability to apply custom .dll's to a mod. Editing it would require nothing short of a retired hacker. |

And would be illegal. |

So many little things are illegal, we are not making profit. Me and a friend were modding for GTA4 and had a lot of fun stuff (and nice improvements), but even just modding the game is illegal, so they patched away all modification. No more well tuned fast car, with better performance. |

Well, that's life... ![]() The will to profit is irrelevant to the judgement of legality...of course (most) people would only have the best of interests, enriching the game environment etc. . But the source is property of EA now, they did not release it to the public and forbid code changes via "reverse engineering" etc. . Thus, illegal and triable. |
