You don't run BF-engine games on Linux. You don't run Valve-made engines (GoldSrc, Source) on Linux. Both run best on Windows machines. You can use any operating system you want, but it is best to use a server edition of the OS. there is Server 2003 and Server 2008. You can always just use XP though if you are hosting a small home server. Plus this game is anti-resource-intensive and requires almost no juice to power. If you want a webserver or database server, please use Linux like all the good people do. Windows is not for real servers, but is necessary for certain gameservers, due to how the coders wrote the engine. |

ok ill look with something os 2008 whats a good os with windows server 2008 is microsoft windows server 2008 good to run a game server from? |

Yes, but XP would still do just fine. It wouldn't impact performance. It's really about ease of server configuration, firewalls, permission sets, having an already built in service-level FTP and webserver for any use you want, etc. |
