I was looking at the commonsoldierdata.inc file today and saw this...I did a search, but noone in that thread knew wtf it did either, and the MDT doesn't tell you. So I thought maybe someone does now?

Did you try turning it off to see what effect it had. I assume it has to do with soldiers being able to enter vehicles.

There's also "objectTemplate.portalPassingPosition 0/0/0" Try using the commands on vehicles to see if it has any effect.

I think it might have to do with soldiers being able to enter doorways. You know how vehicles can't enter most buildings. Can't drive a scooter through a door. I could be totally wrong though..

I did a small RC tank for my mod and as I recall I could enter structures with it (without the portal settings). However the RC mini copter I did could not. I think aircraft use strictly low detail collision for collision for other objects. But then again, I'm not sure if all land vehicles could enter structures if they were small enough for it. I will however try the portal setting on my RC Mini Copter, and will know very quickly whether it has any effect on collisions.

Tried it with the mini copter, No effect on collisions so it either doesn't work on PCOs or it isn't collision related.

Though that thread you linked gave me something else to try. I've always wanted to "enter" a empty soldier like it was a vehicle and the game would always CTD, however I've seen bots enter it without a crash and I even addtemplated it to a vehicle and beenable to switch to it like if it was a vehicle position. (but game would crash as soon as I tried to switch to another position as oddly, once I was in it, I couldn't exit the vehicle without changing to another position)

When the soldier was addtemplated and I was in it, I was even able to pick up a kit I put right next to it and fire at stuff! It behaved just like a soldier only it was tied down to vehicle, so I couldn't move from the spot it was on.

I think the game crashes is because it doesn't know what to do with the old body as it stays there. When I got a bot to enter a empty body, the body the bot was in would remain on the map in the spot were the bot was. It was frozen in whatever animation state it was in prior to the bot leaving it. However as soon as the new body took any damage (only if a bot was using it as the game won't ctd if you kill empty bodies) or if the body the bot left behind took any damage, the game would CTD.
