| Post subject: | Why doesn't PB Setup work? |
I just got my BFV to install but the PB still won't, and I tried and tried to update my PB, but it won't work, it always says "PnkBstrB.exe initialization failure" and kicks me.... So basically, could someone with a working punkbuster post the file here so I can download it? It should be a folder called "pb" at "C:/Program Files/EA GAMES/Battlefield Vietnam" Please I've asked people on my xfire but none of them could find it.

Did you actually install PB with the patch that included PB (or was it included in the game? idk). If not, do so. You can't manually add PB with PB Setup. That is for updating an existing PB install. |

the PB setup program will work even if you didn't install any PB beforehand. My PB got messed up once, and a clan member told me to delete my PB folder, then use the pb setup program. I didn't believe that it would work...so i just moved my pb folder somewhere else. I did what he said, and it worked like a charm. |

That's the problem, and this happened with 1942 also, it doesn't work! It installs, and I can enable it from the menu, but as soon as I join a server it kicks me for initialization failure. Also iced, lol...brilliant advice about 1.61, since I moved my server it hasn't had a single person on it (its been a few weeks) so I'm canceling it And I also just got a xfire friend to send me theirs, and it worked twice, but when the map changed my game crashed and now both times I tried rejoining I get "Error: PnkBstrA Failed to load PnkBstrB" Seriously, somebody has to know wtf is up here? |

Ok I think I know what's up here...Why it's only BFV and not 1942 I don't know but I ran the PB SVC and the log for it seems to say that the PnkBstrB.exe on my computer doesn't like to start when it should. Do you have Vista or XP? If you have XP, this sometimes happens (dunno on Vista, don't have Vista). To launch the B.exe, PB needs to run a "service". So go to your computers system settings->management->services (dunno how it's called in english, in german it's Systemsteuerung/Verwaltung/Dienste). Well, the menu button has two small cogwheels... Here you should find "PnkbstrA" and "PnkbstrB" Check if one them has the launch type "Deactivated". They should have "manual" or "automatic" Set them to "manual" if they were deactivated, that usually does the trick. If not, try setting them to launch "automatical". On some machines the PnkbstrA or PnkbstrB service is missing altogether (seems to appear randomly...), here a complete uninstall of PB (a complete "wipe") and reinstall should do the trick. |

Internet security programs like, Kaspersky or NORTON, will automatically stop punnkbuster tools from working correctly. Either it be heartbeats stopped, or PnkBstrB.exe initialization failed. Make sure to change this so your security will allow the port and passing of the program. |

Yeah, just take a look and have them allow it. Don't do it the lazy way and completely turn off your security. |
