Ok, but in a patch one of the things you could do is edit the engine... not alot but slightly..

Actually the BFV engine is an improved version of the BF1942 engine.
Perhaps editing a few lines of code would make the BFV engine run BF1942 files.

But hey EA doesn't want to spent money on improvements but just selling the
old game some more until really nobody buys the BF1942 game because maybe
under win-7 it just might not run anymore.

Maybe one of us should beg DICE for making this enhancement for us poor BF1942
addicted players ;-)

Edited: I asked DICE to enhance it, If a get an answer I will post it here.

Well if you try to "edit" the engine. First thing you would need to do is change the base path embedded in the EXE. For example BF1942 stuff has "BF1942" in their base path. The engine is hardcoded to accept that path. However the Vietnam EXE only accepts stuff that loads from the BFVietnam base path. Thats why you have to do a bunch of renaming and such if you try an convert a level from one engine to another. But I'm sure that's not the only thing you would have to change.

By the way, can the Vietnam engine load maps that don't have the "undergrowth/overgrowth" stuff in it? BF1942 doesn't have this and uses treemesh's instead. But I'm wondering if the Vietnam engine requires undergrowth/overgrowth or not.
