It isn't be careful what you wish for.
You don't last very long even with a repair/supply add templated to air vehicle,
when 30 bots with automatic rifles and m60's/m249saw all plinking on you from all across the level.

I had done this on my server myself. I made sure all other handweapons have the AI Airstrength set to 0. I left the stinger untouched. Since I don't have any bots that spawn with a kit that has the SA-7, I didn't even look at that. Since they all spawn with the standard stinger anyway. I don't have to worry about bots shooting at me from across the map. the stinger is set to be the only weapon they will fire at aircraft and don't seem to exhibit any "superhuman range" in terms of how far away they will engage a target.

The Bots aim with the stinger isn't perfact. But if your dumb enough to stick around a group of 3 or more bots with stingers, you will get shot down rather quickly. Just as it is if you were playing human players.

I've had no issues with this once I had everything setup right. My bots seem to be smarter then the ones on stock servers now.
