Dont edit the original files whatever you do. This is what i do:
go to your Battlefield 1942 mod folder, and create a new folder called "Textures" or "My Mod" or whatever. Inside that folder make another one called "Archives" Pack your textures into that archive folder and name the file texture.rfa
Now go back to your Mod folder, and click on "Bf1942" find the "Init.con" and open it up with notepad, and add the line:
game.addModPath Mods/(Name Of your Mod Folder)
at the top of the file just above
game.addModPath Mods/BF1942
and Viola, you now have a mod on your BF1942 without editing original files, just remember when you go to play the original version again to change the Init.con back to the way it originally was
