This is a BattleCraft question...sorry. haha I don't know if there IS a 1942 mapping community, but you guys are really great, and I think one of you may know. Anyhow; I'm at the final stages of my custom map, and I will need to generate terrain/object shadows. I just did this tonight by selecting a few 'squares' when the 'generate terrain shadows' box came up. Even though i selected one 'square' of terrain out of im guessing 12, it generated shadows for them all. Here is the results (as thumbnails below). Should i just not select any grid squares at all..? It seems when I do it discards whatever painting i did to the surface map and uses the material setting as the 'paint'...which i definitely do not want! (Oh, and yes I was sure to make a backup before doing this. ![]() Am I answering my own question (should i not select any squares) here..? Perhaps I just need to hear I'm doing it right then. lol. As always guys, thanks for any comments/suggestions (except for you smartasses! ![]() |

Just check all the squares, set it to highest resolution and go to sleep ![]() Sorry, I dunno that's a weird one... never had that problem. |

Damn! Yeah Los, I'll try that tonight. Well, I'll try my idea first lol, but then I'll set them all high if that doesn't work. It's really close to being done and I'm getting giddy. ![]() edit: I just used the quick reply without even thinking about it. ![]() |

With some graphic cards (drivers probebly) and battlecraft versions you can only do one square at once without making a mess out of other squares. So for best result you should do one square at a time. This bug drove me crazy for a while before I realized what was going on. If it goes slow for you and you have several computers at hand, install battlecraft on them all and render shadows on them. And when every square are finished you mix them with terrain texture. I usually put my signature as a shadow in one corner of map, looks sweet as hell, mirrored and upside down. ![]() This bug is fixed in Battlecraft for Vietnam in latest version, probebly that's why Losnar has no problem with it. |

It's only ugly in the BC itself, ingame it might work. |

Ive always done them all at once. They then merge together, and im able to paint the surface myself, Usually painting is usefull for painting the out of bounds, or adding darkness to shell holes. But other than it erasing my work which ive learned not to do anymore until ive created shadows ive never had problems with battlecraft generating stuff. Yea it may crash doing them all at once depending on the size, so do it in pieces 2 or 3 at a time go to bed start again tomorow. |
