Post subject: | server question |
Ok, I have a server with clanservers.com, and have the linux BF1942 server... My question is, is the ONLY difference in normal server files and linux server files the case of the letters? Mixed case for a windows server and all lower case for a linux one? If so, is it just the name of the file, or does every letter in ever file in the *_001.rfa file have to be lower case? Also, if that IS the case, can I just open up an rfa file and change the case of EVERY LETTER anywhere in the file(s) and have it work on the linux server. Also, again, does anyone know of a program that will go into a file and render every letter in that file into lower case, without changing the format in any other way? Please help... Thanks. |

Inside the rfa it make no difference. But yes linux requires lowercase and as far as I can tell that is the only difference (in regards to that, there are other reasons for choosing linux, but that is not for this thread). Short answer, just rename all the rfa file to lower case and then you use them on linux. (As a side note, windows is not case sensitive, meaning that you can lowercase, UPAERCASE, or CaMeLcAsE on a windows system. Linux however is case sensitive and by convetion lowercase was chosen. As far as numbers go, the do not have case, so who can you 'lowercase' 001? *_001 is just a patch method. Its describe else where so I will not repeat it. However, yes you do need to make the character before the _001 lowercase too, as they are a part of the name. No file in the bf server is exempt from needing to be lowercased.) Hope that helps. |

Yes, I know what a wildcard is, and I used the * as such to denote any rfa file... Thanks though. So, in theory, I just rename El_Alamein_001.rfa to el_alamein_001.rfa and upload it and it will work, right? Hmmm, wonder why it crashed to desktop then? Must be one of those "works locally but not on the server" things... Maybe I will try downloading the one DCF mod on here and trying it to see if it works renamed. Thanks again. EDIT: One other thing...as I understand it, the _001.rfa file only needs in it the things that are changed, right? So it can be a fairly small file when you are done, correct? |

back when I made DC_F mods our clan server was on windows and my server on linux. The only thing I did was change the file name to lowercase (eventually I tired of that and just used lowercase for windows too). I have not ran into naming issue inside of the rfa, so ya, if it is crashing, its probably a mod issue. |
