The problem with that recomendation is that Col C.'s does quite a bit of
the work for you.
WinRFA doesnt.
You have to extract, then open a text editor to delete, change, modify,
and then WinRFA again to recompress it.
Col C.'s opens the .rfa and all edits can be done within it. The only step a
Modder needs is to tell it to compress.
The steps involved for setting up for SSM'ing starts with finding out if the
easier program works on your PC.
To skip it could be a grand waste of time and effort.
Col C.'s is a combination of WinRFA, Explorer, and a text editor.
The leftmost column is the options that can be performed outside the .rfa.
The top two windows to the right of the column is the Explorer Portion of
the program. The one on the left is the folder trees and the one on the
right displays the contents of the folder if it has text files (it does not show
any folders)
The window across the bottom is the text editor.
Highlight any .con file in the right window to make changes to that .con in
the editor.
To save any changes click the floppy "save" icon just above the bottom
window.
To rebuild the .rfa and create the patch, click the "BuildRFA" button.
The "Build" option will NOT appear untill a change is made within the .rfa.
To start, delete ALL files and folders that you will NOT make any changes
to. The reason for this is the server will use the original .rfa for those that
you delete. This leaves only the files that differ from the original .rfa.
Hence the monicer "patch".
Read "Prepping Your Files" for in-depth explanation.
Once you click the "Build" option, click to compress or not. Your choice.
Click the three dots next to the text box. ...
Select the original rfa and add _00#.rfa to the end instead of just .rfa.
The # is a number sequence. The larger the number is the latest patch
created in sequence.
Most common for first patches is either _000.rfa or _001.rfa.
Then before closing the window, select the "Desktop" in the dropdown list
at the top of the window.
This will create the patch on your desktop rather than inside your maps
list folder.
Then select the "Save" button on bottom.
Then select "Go".
You now have created a patch on your destop.
Open the patch and change what you want. Resave and build to complete
the work.
Col C'.s is fussy and glitchy but it works if it works on your PC.
