I see no reason for that to work. You can place up to 8 before they start to disappear. And since the mag size is 4, the limit isn't really tied to mag size...

I was thinking that what makes them disappear after you place a certain number was tied to magsize. Like, for example, if it's 4 in magsize, then they disappear after double that are placed.

Well would you look at that, your right! lol. I set mag size to 8 and now I can place 16!

Now it would be interesting if that multiplicator can be changed somewhere. Or if this applies to all projectiles or only the mines specifically?

Thought it really is weird, BF only very rarely uses multiplicators...
