hi all i am a major noob at this SSM stuff, from what i have read in the tuts and forums threads, to make a modded map never use battlecraft only for co ordinates, am i right?. also what i want to know is , any files on the server have to be altered or a new file need to be created server side for modding, and if so what files need changing or adding . i am assuming file/files need to be changed server side before any map mods can be applied. this is for battlefield vietnam servers. i have read through 45 pages of threads in the question and assistance side, and the 20 pages in BFV section but i have not seen anything specific to my 2nd question about server files. sorry for rabbling on too much but i thought it best to say as much as possible up front so people hopefully understand what i am asking.

thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

sorry just noticed that i posted this in 1942 section, definitely a noob.

as for one, my experience is BC is great for creating new maps, which are not server side, and coordinates. i NEVER do server side modding with it. as for files, im not sure what your asking, if you mean what files you modify, the majority are in the map itself in the object spawn templates and the object spawns. as far as vietnam, urglub, and some others have tons of experience, me zero.....hope this helps...

thanks hardrock
i have heard that server files need to have some mod or alteration done to them in order to make the server SSM, maybe i have got it wrong?. to make things SSM is just a matter of map modding server side?

SSM just means you are changing things that the server only needs to know about. If you add turbo to jeeps, you are doing an SSM. If you are adding extra seats to jeeps, you are doing a client-side mod, which means both sides need the files.

thanks Why Two Kay.
if i read your post right, there are no extra files needed in server side modding, it just a matter of modding the server maps via winRFA and not needing battlecraft except for the co-ordinates to make the mods. then any mods made upload as a patch file which is in the tuts section.

Right, you just make patch files (or in some cases, actually edit the rfa files already there) and that will work.

thank you Why Two Kay
now i have the direction i needed to toy with maps. here i am thinking there was some mysterious way of modding maps but after reading more here and what you have told me it now does not seem so hard, only the practical part of learning through trial and error.
thanks and have a great day.
