So there ... I guess evreyone knew what was gonna happen ... but kept believing.

now what do we do ?

EA already took the money and ran

I had a windows server, both win XP pro and Servero 03 Ent. Both sucked big time. I swithced to Linux (suse 9) and performance boosed 300% (and it being very conservative). 03 had file dl loads at 6MB/sec at best. XP at 8MB/sec, SuSE with apcahe2 12MB/sec (for the HTTP end of things). I run a LAN server most of the time, so that made a huge differnece.

XP had to be rebooted every day. 03 ever couple of days. SuSE has really need to be rebooted yet (over 3 months).

When I ran a BF42 server, windows (both 03 and XP) lagged big time when starting the server or launching a second and third servers.

SuSE no lag whatever. Perfectly smooth.

As for modding support, the only issue was caps in the file names. All mods worked both on linux and windows.

Any real server, with the exception of running Active Directory, is using linux.

If a mojority of the internets servers are linux, and all CISCO routers use a custom linux kernel for thier base OS, they why not support it. Linux is by far a supior server OS.

Windows for gamming just it plays all games, but for servers the only real choice is Linux.

And for the record, not all flavors of linux are free. Most of the server oriented versions are costly.

Any company who cooses to ignor linux or turn a blind eye toward it is foolish.

I agree that you get more for less with Linux and that almost all pro servers, be they for games or ftp or mail or anything for that matter runs better on Linux.

I just think EA is in bed with everyone.... be it Gamespy, Nvidia, or ....yup Macrosoft. So we took the path of least resistence. And you must admit that for the most part Linux is free, and that with any incarnations that are not free, you are really buying the support, not the software.

I did not mean to pick a fight, I am no expert, and I respect your experiance Fuzz. Someone will fix it.... probably not EA/Dice, more like some nerdy kid with horn rimmed glasses who is tired uf waiting..... "Do you know how this works?"
