I just set up my custom resolution in the Video.con of my profiles used (I have 1680x1050), and added fieldofview 1.1 to videodefault.con
Changing the video.con to the proper resolution makes the proportions working properly (no more fat guys etc.
), but the way BF42 applies resolutions you get a VERT- instead of a HOR+. That means instead of seeing more to the left and right (thus, a higher FOV), you see less up and down than 4:3 players...but you see everything bigger/zoomed in...
Changing fieldofview to 1.1 slightly counteracts this problem by increasing your left-right-FOV slightly. Best is to stand next to a straight line ingame and check if it is displayed straight. If it is distorted, your FOV setting is either too high or too low...
Also, you should try out a setting of 25 or 0.1 for fun
. Then just enter a plane and fly around a bit. That will really get you sick
. If the value is too high, camera will be turned upside down and every object will be displayed in very bad LODs due to the heavy distortions....and aircraft carriers seem to be several kilometres long
