I set out on improving my city streets map, but instead redid the whole thing in about 5 days, starting from Thursday of last week. I figure there's got to be at least 30 hours of work in there, since I worked on it Friday for about 10. Anyways, I had to rush to finish it for a battlefield league season coming up.

It's a small/medium sized map, with 1 central 'park' flag, and 2 other cappable bases. Like I said its currently infantry only, but I left ObjectSpawnTemplates.con with some spawners so a patch could be made -- I think this would be a lot of fun with a couple of tanks. I lifted the french houses from forgotten hope, and tried to copy as best I could the road look from Liberation of Caen...I think this is best seen in screenshot #2. I added some ambient gunshot/war sounds, so that kind of gives it a little atmosphere.

Two things that bug me though (ok maybe 3):
The number of FH buildings causes a bit of noticeable lag at times.
I left out a roof texture on one house. Oops. Good thing its only in the corner of the map.
The fog. Doesn't 'feel' right to me.

The biggest beef I have is the noticeable lag. Could there be any way of fixing that, without removing the statics? Cull distances, LOD distances? :(

Looks really nice. I like how you did the road textures.

<-definetly interested, seems it woul be a formidable addition to our projects' mappool. I'll take a look at the map ASAP.

Streets of Paris, huh? So where's the Eiffel Tower, the Champs Elysees, the Trocadero, the Palace of Versailles, The Arc of Triumph, the medieval Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Louvre museum?

The maps nice, but you could at least make then add to your map some of the structures and monuments I've mentionned above, else your map will just look like any other European capital. At least make an Eiffel Tower! Think about it...

pinkballs was nice enough to make me a 2d eiffel tower (i supplied the graphic), but it didn't look so good...so it got the axe. If anyone else wants to help or has an idea I'm all ears though! :o

And of course, anyone that wants to use it is more than welcome. I made this map to be played!

Like I said it needs some tanks, but I left room in OST.con for vehicles.

Actually I have no problem with a map being "generic". Most, if not all BF maps are pretty generic, and that's really okay for me. I don't want a 1:1 reconstruction of a historical site (which would be senseless for arcade BF42), but rather a nice "theme inspired" map which is immersive, even if it doesn't feature "unique" buildings.
