i just had a bowl of my homemade chilli, and as my mouth burns with the awesome taste of it, i thought i'd share my recipe with u folks
Things you'll need
Blender
Chilli pot
Skillet
Some Veggie Oil
Wooden Spoons
Spaghetti strainer Thingie
Ingredients:
3 lbs of Top Sirloin (any boneless steak will do however)
1 8 oz can of beef broth
1 pack of Jimmy Dean hot Sausage
1 can of those hot V8 drinks (find em in the soda section)
1 Onion
5 cloves of garlic (if you hate garlic, then cut this down to 3)
2 regular cans of beans (dont matter.. your favorite bean will do, something along the lines of red beans, or kidney beans)
1 big ole can of peeled tomatoes (i think it's 16 oz. cans.)
11 tablespoons of chili powder
1 teaspoon of cumin
3 teaspoons of tabasco sauce
6 Habenero peppers (if you can't take the heat, you can use maybe 7 or 8 jalapeno peppers)
1 bottle of Budweiser
First things first
1) cut up yer 3 lbs of steak into 1/2" or so cubes. Divide yer meat into 2 piles. then cut that jimmy dean sausage into 2. Half of that will get cooked with half the meat, and the other half the other half (you'll see.. put this crap to the side for now...)
The Chilli Base
1) pour in the beef broth into a big ole chilli pot, and put the burner on super low
2) Spoon out the tomatoes in the peeled tomatoe can, and put em in the blender
3) cut up the onion and garlic and put those in the blender
4) cut up the peppers and put those in the blender
5) pour in that V8 stuff (in the blender)
6) now purre it till its like a liquid. add some tabasco sauce (like 1 teaspoon or so), and maybe some salt (take a taste to be sure)
The Meat
1) first drain our yer beans and pour those in the pot
2) fire up a skillet and pour in some veggie oil
3) Put in half yer steak cubes with half yer sausage, and cook this (stirring every once in a while) untill the meat is brown
4) Oh yeah, put half that sausage in there too (push it apart with a wooden spoon or somethin).
5) When the meat is all brown, strain it through one of those strainer things, then dump it into the chilli pot
6) Now pour in half your chilli base (from teh blender) into the chilli pot too.
7) Now do the same thing to the other half of your meat. Strain it, put it in the chilli pot, and add the rest of yer base.
The Simmer
1) Pour in half a budweiser
2) Add 6 tablespoons of chili powder.
3) Now bump the heat up a tad (maybe to a point between low and medium). We want to get the stuff simmering within 15 to 20 minutes.
4) put a lid on the pot while yer waiting
5) Once it's simmering (u see little bubbles) take the heat back down to low, and give it a good stir.
6) Put the lid back on and let it go like this for 1 hour and 30 minutes
7) Check it maybe after 30 more minutes.. make sure it's still simmering a little... if not, bump the heat up a tad.
An hour and a half later...
1) Take off the lid and add 5 more tablespoons of Chili powder
2) Add a teaspoon of cumin
3) Add a teaspoon or so of Tabasco Sauce
4) Put the lid back on and simmer it for another 30 minutes.
THATS IT BABY! After 2 hours of hard and toiling labor, prepare for some good chilli eatin (this stuff is great for hang-overs too
)
