Ok so I've been modding the map Hellendoorn for the SW Demo recently, and whenever I try to edit terrain, objects or whatever in the map via Editor42, and then save it, I crash to desktop. What should I do?

not sure about the SW demo, but if i remember it right the bf42 demo is somewhat blocked for modding eg you cant mod it the "usual" way.

I would advise against using regular modding tools like ED42 or Battlecraft when modding the demo.

There is some situations (even with some retail maps maybe) where ED42 will crash when it attempts to save the objects. A soldier spawn template without it being added in the soldierspawns.con or when a objectspawntemplate has more then two objects set to spawn on that spawntemplate.

Plus its the demo. So I would just recommend using notepad....

The solution is simple. When you click save in editor42 quickly move your mouse down to the windows bar at the bottom and click on any other open program. I usually click on WinRFA because it's not full screen and you can see what's happening behind it, but anything seems to work (wordpad, a folder etc, just something so that editor isn't the active program when saving). That's it, you'll see 'save' or 'saved' or something coming up on the editor42 screen behind your program within a few seconds and the view will go all 2d like, then you can click back on editor and close it, continue working or whatever... Simple as that.


All the comments about it only being a demo are just rubbish. SW demo is v1.45 and everything I've tried on here has worked except maybe battlecraft which doesn't work I think, but editor does everything i need. There are even some things you can do in it that you can't do in the full version like server side invisible soldiers. The wake island v1.0 and v1.1 demo is a different matter.
