Hi everyone,

We admin a server with a rule of no basecamping except for snipers. When I came across this site I was totally stoked, since I'm tired of babysitting.

A question and a problem:

Question - on server side mods (say to decrease enemy health when they come in my base) do I need to distribute files with the changes to everyone who is going to play on my server, or does it work based on the server's interpretation of the map, so clients (simply ANYONE who connects from the 'Net) reflect my changes automatically? I hope that makes sense. I know if you create new maps people who play have to have previously downloaded the map, and I don't know if the same applies here. Something like removing the SCUD from DC-73 Eastings, etc. - would I need an "001.rfa" for all of these, and clients would need it prior to connecting?

Problem - I d/led the RFA Explorer (v1.2) from the site but I'm getting a runtime error every time I try and open it - specifically:
Runtime error 216 at 0040398E

If anyone has ideas I'll be grateful.

I did search on both of these things but didn't come up with answers on my own.

Server side mods require no downloads for clients.

Col. Cruachan's RFA Explorer requires that you download and install dotnetredist.exe first.

#1 - thanks, that's what I was hoping to hear.

#2 - I already had .NET 1.1 SP1 from MS, I tried both reinstalling the .NET 1.1 and even getting the .NET SDK but no love on either one. I sumbitted an email to Cruachan with the error to see if he can help shed any light on the issue.

I used to use Col. Cruachan's RFA Explorer, but when repacking it would give black quadrants from time to time and would hang on me. I've since been using WinRFA from the MDT tools and it works great.

Here's the ONLY way I got RFA Explorer to work -

I UNINSTALLED DirectX (I DO NOT recommend this for the faint of heart) using a third party util. I had to reinstall XP SP2 and the managed file portion of DirectX, and it still said I was missing files. Fortunately, I had an almost identical box, and I grabbed the files I needed from there. RFAE was still flaky (crashed about 3 out of 5 times) but a reboot sems to have it acting more stable.

Nothing from the email I sent the Colonel but I can't even get to his site, so who knows ... anyway, I did most of the bubble mods today, fixed the A10 in Oil Fields, added a boat to the US side on Lost Village and replaced the SCUD on Eastings with a T72.

Tomorrow I'm going to test and if things go well, it's all about the Lada Bomb.

Well, I double checked everything (spooky that an MSKB would show that exact error) but as an interesting sidenote, I did find this:
