server version: basically just take out all sound and graphics files (textures). |

I dislike the installer creator. It certainly is handy and works, too, but it has an awful compression... I myself use Inno Setup Compiler to do this, has all the options in the world (e.g. creating working shortcuts for the mod, creating direct-connect-shortcuts to our project server), provides LZMA compression (even better than the "Best" option of WinRAR), includes CLEAN uninstallers (leaving no traces whatsoever, unlike many many other commercial products...). Oh yeah, and it's open source and free. Of course it also is more difficult because you have to write the compiler script all by yourself, not many fancy assistants to help you there, but very good tutos. Just a suggestion if anyone intends to do more sophisticated modding work and also wants to present it better. I myself like to have an installer, but also making many things optional. E.g. optional shortcuts, optional music themes for the mod, etc. etc. . I also would be willing to give out my compiler script for my mod. Should be easy enough to adapt to everybody needs (just chaning some pathnames etc.) |
