This tut will show how to make a patchfile with WinRFA.exe

To begin with, what is a patchfile?
It's a tweak of org. mapfile, things that needed to be changed are in this file.
And it's this feature we are using to ssm our servers with.

Start WinRFA
File/Open.rfa
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield Vietnam\Mods\BfVietnam\Archives\BfVietnam\Levels\Ia_Drang.rfa
Mark following files (Ctrl)
    BfVietnam/levels/Ia_Drang/Conquest.con
    BfVietnam/levels/Ia_Drang/Init.con
    BfVietnam/levels/Ia_Drang/StaticObjects.con
    BfVietnam/levels/Ia_Drang/Conquest/ControlPoints.con
    BfVietnam/levels/Ia_Drang/Conquest/ControlPointTemplate.con
    BfVietnam/levels/Ia_Drang/Conquest/ObjectSpawns.con
    BfVietnam/levels/Ia_Drang/Conquest/ObjectSpawnTemplate.con
    BfVietnam/levels/Ia_Drang/Conquest/SoldierSpawns.con
    BfVietnam/levels/Ia_Drang/Conquest/SoldierSpawnTemplate.con
    BfVietnam/levels/Ia_Drang/Conquest/spawnPointManagerSettings.con
    BfVietnam/levels/Ia_Drang/GameTypes/Conquest.con
    BfVietnam/levels/Ia_Drang/Menu/init.con
Extract/Selected to C:\
Open first patchfile from DICE
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield Vietnam\Mods\BfVietnam\Archives\BfVietnam\Levels\Ia_Drang_001.rfa
    BfVietnam/levels/Ia_Drang/StaticObjects.con
    BfVietnam/levels/Ia_Drang/Conquest/ObjectSpawnTemplate.con
And Extract/Selected to C:\
Now we have overwritten staticObjects.con and ObjectSpawnTemplate.con with the latest version = this is a good thing.
Note that there isn't many files in a patchfile.
Sometimes there isn't even one you need there.

Now it's time to pack these files to our own patchfile.
Pack/Directory Source Directory ... C:\BfVietnam\ (and Base path will be BfVietnam)
Press Pack and select a destination on harddrive.
C:\ssm\ could be a good choise.
Name file Ia_Drang_002.rfa

There you go, your first real patchfile with all files needed.
This is the file you make your changes in and send over to server when your done with it.
This file should only be in
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield Vietnam\Mods\BfVietnam\Archives\BfVietnam\Levels\
when you test it, then remove it very fast.
Every server you play on when you have this file there will ban you.

And remember, you don't change things in Objects.rfa,
you just read it and gather information to put into your own patchfile.

Game.rfa is a bit tricky.
Some values you can change in your patchfile, but not all.
Here you might have to do changes in Game.rfa. Be careful and do a backup.

The noob question is always, where do I put the code?
It goes into ObjectSpawnTemplate.con in the patchfile.

Did exactly like you said. When I try to run dedicated server with patchfile the bfv_ w32ded.exe file flashes the window for a second and goes away. Not sure what else to do. Am I missing something or am I a DAU? Have tried this countless times and same results everytime. I am trying to change some flag properties (nuetralize them) and add the double flags at the mains on Khe Sahn map

Thanks

I was able to create a patch file for Hue in BFV.

However, I have since tried with Irving and Hastings, and all i get is corrupt data.

I open the map.rfa, in winrfa select the files as noted above in Urglub's tut (extract the selection to a folder) then open the 001 from DICE and select the files I need (extract the selection to the same folder as above) and then pack the bfvietnam folder i created in the folder i extracted the above to.

I then rename the patch to say 003 and should be done.

However, after just changing the fantom in irving to a mig17 i get corrupt data. (yet if i take my patch out and leave DICEs 001 in the server there are no issues).

As soon as i take out the 001 and put my 003 in the server, I have problem.

Has anyone simply created clean patches for the ss files prior to making any changes?

I figured it out.

all had to do with winRFA defaulting the first letters of the patch name as upper case and not lower case.
