Just rummaging through old posts for ideas and came across this one. Sadly the ObjectTemplate.engineType c_ETRocket code is unstable & causes the server to crash at random intervals. It's a damn shame too because autopilot planes as a SSM were pretty sweet. Does anyone know of a way to make this stable???

Well, I know this works in 1942, may be worth a try. I don't have the exact code handy (sorry), but, essentially, it spawns the plane with it's engine(s) running, and floaters attached so it sits high above the ground until it's engines give it speed to take off. I don't believe floaters have collision physics either, so, they can go through buildings and the like without crashing into them (as plane takes off and gains altitude. This would be ideal for a urban map.)
Of course, you would lose the crazy speed and loops, etc, that losnar explained, however it would fly in a perfectly straight line, and self destruct once it reached end of map.

Yes, we can do it in BFV. The point of my original post is that the code is UNSTABLE. Sure, it seems to work... but run it on a SSM server for a few days and just watch as it crashes multiple times per day. The strange thing is it doesn't crash at the same point each time. Normally if something is wrong with code it will always crap out at a given time or under a specific circumstance. With this rocket engine it seems to be completely random... any ideas?
