| Post subject: | Rename a map |
How would I go about renaming a map? Im stumpped right now. What I know so far: Rename the main map folder (duh) In the info folder rename the .desc files to match folder name Edit the map_name_here.desc and in one of the top lines is the line that makes it appear properly ingame. What I cant figure out: How to completely rename the map and keep if from crashing. Fr sake of example I am trying to rename FuShe_Pass to FuShe_Pass_Fuzz. Reason: Server side mods dont seem to work, but client side is very easy. So in the mean time I want to make renamed versions of the maps and mod them. I know its client side, but I'll take what I can get. I have tried to go through all the con file and change all references of FuShe_Pass to FuShe_Pass_Fuzz. I think I got them all in the server.zip but I am not sure if there are any in the client.zip. Every time I load up the map it crashes at "objects". After playing some more: Clients dont appear to care about zip size. I was able to create my own zip archive for the plane FuShe_Pass. Stock zip size 5.27MB, my size is 13.6MB (no compresson). Im not sure if a client connects what will happen, but for one pc any map compression will work. Also it seems that everything that we could do in BF42 can be done cleitn side in BF2. So far I have addtemplated and removetemplated wepaons (a work around for granting access to new weapons), added nos to the DPV, changed what spawns and spawn times. I haven't played with everything yet, but from the current results look good for client side mods. If only could rename the map that I can keep the the stock FuShe Pass and have my modded map too... |

k thanks. But after trying for a while, I just decided to make a whole new mod, cleaner and easier. but there is one thing, when you rename a map, you do still need a copy of client.zip? with a new mod you still need a complete copy of client.zip for it play, but if renaming can cross link the level to the only client.zip, then that would save about 60MB per level. |

I tired this again cause I want to make a knife, pistol, paddle onl version of karkand, but I cant seem to get it renamed. I beleive I went through every file in the server zip with a text edtor and changed all the references to Strike_at_Karkand to Karkan_Knives (including the ones in the tai files) and changed the four lines in at the top of the terraindata.raw with ultra edit to relfect the new name and still crahes on objects. Are there any other hidden names that need to be changed? |
